Urge Senate Appropriators: Remove Public Media Funding Cuts

Public media needs your urgent action. On Wednesday, June 25, the Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing on a rescissions package that threatens to take back $1.1 billion in approved public media funding.

Take two minutes to call your Senator on the Committee and urge them to remove this catastrophic proposal from the package. After entering your information, click “Call Your Senator.” A blue screen with talking points will appear. Scroll down and click the same button again to start the call. You’ll be connected directly to your Senator through 202-851-6003. You may need to select * to advance to the appropriate office.

Public media is the only service that reaches almost every American – regardless of income or zip code – with life-saving emergency alerts, educational resources, trusted local journalism, and community-focused programming and outreach.

These cuts would have immediate and devastating consequences. Stations nationwide would be forced to reduce or eliminate vital services. Rural and tribal stations – where federal funding covers a significant share of operational costs – face the greatest risk of going dark entirely.

Don’t let communities lose their only source of free local information, emergency alerts, and educational enrichment. Call now and urge your Senator to protect local public media stations.
