Public Media Funded FY 2018
President Signed Bill That Fully Funds Public Media

President Trump signed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 omnibus appropriations bill into law, which provides full funding for public media through September 30, 2018. Specifically, the bill fully funds:

  • The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which directly distributes critical seed funding to local public radio and television stations to support their public service work.
  • Ready To Learn, a grant program that enables the creation of public media’s educational content that’s proven to help close the achievement gap.
  • Interconnection, which is the infrastructure that allows stations to send you programming and emergency communications.

Important groundwork has already been laid by advocates who asked lawmakers to sign the public media support letters. Thanks to their outreach, the House of Representatives letter had a record-breaking number and the Senate letter is on its way to attaining similar results.

We are confident that if we continue to raise our voices during key moments in the congressional process that we can secure FY 2019 funding, too.
