Protect My Public Media Launches Coalition of Organizations to Support Public Media Funding

By Protect My Public Media Coalition |

On March 4, 2025, Protect My Public Media announced the launch of the first public media organization coalition dedicated to advocating for public media funding. Bringing together more than 30 influential public media-affiliated organizations from across the country, this coalition unites producers, regional representatives, and others that support access to free educational resources and independent journalism.

Public media is a vital public service that connects communities across the country. It delivers unpaywalled local, national, and international news, lifesaving emergency alerts, and proven educational resources for children and families. It also preserves and amplifies local stories, history and cultural content that might otherwise be untold.

With more than 1,500 public media stations serving all 50 states and U.S. territories, public media reaches nearly 99% of Americans public via broadcast signal and extends its impact through digital platforms, reaching the public wherever they are. But its continued ability to serve the public depends on a modest federal investment of about $1.60 per person each year.

A Unified Voice for Public Media

The Protect My Public Media Coalition brings together a broad, diverse network that understands the value of public media and advocates for the essential funding that public media needs to thrive. By uniting with the hundreds of thousands of Protect My Public Media supporters across the country, the Coalition will amplify public media’s impact engage lawmakers throughout the funding process.
